Why we built it
The gap we built this to close.
What follows is not a child we met and it is not anyone’s words but ours. It is our own account of what is missing from a young person’s week, written down so you can decide whether we have it right.

A child who is doing fine.
He prays. He is decent to his parents. Nothing about him asks for attention, and that is the part we keep coming back to.

Two halves that never meet.
Who he is at home and who he is with his friends run on different rules. He learns to keep them apart. Keeping them apart is work, and nobody sees him doing it.

Questions he does not ask.
Not because anyone forbade them. Because there is no room where asking one costs nothing.

So he answers them alone.
At one in the morning, from whoever the feed sends him. That is the gap. Not rebellion. Nowhere to put the question.

That is the room we built.
Adults who take the question seriously, and who say they do not know and then go and find out when that is the honest answer. NEXGEN exists for the part of a young person's week that nothing else is holding.

Every kid needs three spaces to grow up well. Home shapes values. School and masjid teach structure and knowledge. NEXGEN is the third, the place a young person actually chooses to be.

NEXGEN is grounded in Islamic character: discipline, respect, service, purpose. We don’t lecture. We build the environment those values live inside. Families of every background are welcome.
Year one
What we are building toward
NEXGEN has just opened, so we are building toward a full week for every stage from age 4 up, and toward young people who end up running parts of it themselves. We are not publishing counts of who we have served, because there is nothing yet to count.

Where we’re going
From one home to a movement
We’re not building one space, we’re building the model. NEXGEN starts on Staten Island. The goal is a community home near every Muslim family that wants one.
